At the end of the day, the issue is not what people do. It’s that they did not know Jesus. What does it mean to know God? There is only one verse in the Bible where God clearly defined what it meant to know Him.

16He stood up for those who were poor or needy. So everything went well with him.

That is what it means to know me,” announces the Lord. (Jeremiah 22:16)

The heart of God is for you to be free from materialistic bondages. You cannot be caught up with money. Otherwise, your master is in this world. We know that money is not an issue when we are generous, not just with our tithes and offering, but in how we bless others. If we are unable to do these things, it means money is still a stronghold.

In the entire record of Jesus’ life, he only talked about one person who went to hell. It was the rich man who ignored the man at his gate — that’s the man who went to hell. Before we say, “that’s not me”, let me tell you, we are the rich man. If you have a car, it doesn’t have to be an expensive one, then it makes you in the richest 8% in the world. A lot of people are already poorer than you.

We are the rich man, and you need to understand what you need to do with these blessings. The rich man overlooked Lazarus. All his life, he thought he was better than the poor man, but he went to hell, while the poor man went to heaven.

In Matthew 25, the 10 virgins are separated by their Tsidaqah — generosity. Generosity is proof that you know God. It makes sense. If you do not know God, if you are forced by the Law, instead of by grace to give, then you would always have a reluctant heart. If you are, on the other hand, aware of God’s goodness and faithfulness, then you are able to be generous, regardless of your circumstance.

In 1 John 3:16, the author said Christ laid down is life for us because of love, and we ought to lay down our lives for others. Your sacrifice in the altar of your life blesses the work of God. People who feel bad that they have to provide for the priests do not know God at all. They do not understand the concept of “you are blessed to be a blessing.” When the day comes, Jesus would say to these people, “I never knew you.”
