“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The power of the Word has showed itself to us through God’s creation. He has ultimately given us the best example of how words can bring life and create realities. He has also gifted us with being able to mold and build our own lives through the guidance of scripture and the power of our declarations.
If our words are so powerful, then how have we been using them to better our lives and the lives of those around us? Mt. 12:34-36 writes, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.” The passage talks about how spoken words affect people’s emotions and even circumstances. They can bring joy, happiness, love, encouragement, hurt, pain, illness, and anger. Knowing this, we must be more mindful not only of our thoughts, but what we say out loud.
The words that come out of our mouths have the ability to create truths in our lives. So, what do we say to ourselves every day? What are some of the truths that we speak of? These are the words that become our declarations daily, so we must be conscious of the statements that we make. Gary Chapman has a metaphor for the power of declarations and words, “Words are either bullets or seeds.” What seeds are we planting in order to make the best out of our lives?
It is a matter of shifting our perspective and setting a tone that is not only beneficial to us, but is pleasing in God’s eyes. If you woke up in the morning and said, “It’s going to be a stressful day,” that immediately sets your day up for frustration and pressure. But if you said, “I am going to have a beautiful and productive day,” it shifts your way of thinking and allows you to create the space to have a great day ahead.
Other ways of using the power of declaration involves recognizing your self-worth and your goals about your personal development. The use of the words “I am” is a declaration of God and can give strength to your affirmations. These two incredible words should not be underestimated. They have the capacity to define who you are. How do you define yourself? Do you catch yourself saying, “I am not good enough”? Or “I am not smart enough?” Turn those statements around and begin to declare your self-worth and power. You can start by saying, “I am worthy,” “I am a child of God,” “I am loved,” “I am making a difference in the world.” When you say these words, you must truly believe and put all your faith in it.
