When you withhold the tithe and the offerings, you are building a small altar in your life for money. It is money you are worshipping. When you fail to give your tithes and offering, instead of making money your offering on the altar, you are making it the object of worship. You make your wallet the altar, and you worship money.

Have you ever experienced giving to be one of the happiest acts a Christian can do? Are you there yet wherein your heart wells up in joy when there is an opportunity to give and there is something to give? The Lord usually sets up these moments. You encounter a huge blessing, there is more than enough, and the Lord opens a door when you can bless someone or you can fund His work. Or, is it a completely different experience? Have you encountered a large amount of provision, and you are happy because there is more for you to consume? You shut any door that tells you to give. You do not even consider in your mind that the Lord has prepared you to become a blessing. As a result, the opportunity is not lost, and you become stagnant in your walk with the Lord.

There is truly great joy in stripping ourselves of earthly burdens by giving to the poor and for God’s work. Paul says, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7).
