Christian Households

This is evident in Ephesians 5, where Paul gives instructions to Christian households. The apostle exhorts wives to submit to their husbands as they do to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of his body, the church, of which he is the Savior. 168 In the same way that the church submits to Christ, wives must submit to their husbands in all things.

The role of the husbands

Paul then instructs husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, purifying her by the washing with water through the word and presenting her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

In the same way, husbands should love their wives as if they were their own bodies. He who loves his wife is in love with himself. After all, no one has ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for it, just as Christ feeds and cares for the church, because we are members of his body.

“For this reason,” says the book of Genesis, “a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”

Reclaiming manhood

It is time for fathers to reclaim their manhood by rethinking their priorities and realigning them with God’s commands, decrees, and laws, and teaching these things to their children “when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise.”

If your faith isn’t working at home, it’s not working anywhere. The family resembles a sand dune or a sculpture. A sand dune has no shape or pattern. It is simply the result of whatever environmental forces are at work. It lacks a solid foundation. The sand dune’s shape and appearance will be altered by the wind tomorrow.

A sculpture, on the other hand, has a design. There is purpose. What is the objective? There is a reason for this. Your family will be either a sand dune swept and blown around by the winds of culture and circumstance, or a sculpture with design, purpose, and goal. It all comes down to the type of man you choose to be.
